The default view takes 100 units of each currency (or 100 oz of gold, or one median US house) on the start date and tracks what that holding is worth in bitcoin. When bitcoin's price in a currency rises tenfold, that currency's line falls to 10. Stat cards give the loss for each line. Majors come from mempool.space; emerging currencies and the lira from the European Central Bank's daily reference rates; hyperinflated currencies from the World Bank's official annual rates; gold from Kraken's gold-backed PAXG/BTC market; the house from the Census median sales price.
Street rates. The World Bank series are official exchange rates, and for Argentina and Venezuela the official rate has often been far kinder than the rate people could actually get, so those lines understate the loss. Annual data also smooths out the collapses. Gold begins in 2020 because that's when its bitcoin market opened. The house price is a hand-kept annual table, approximate until the site's own data feed replaces it.
